So you’ve written a book! Hooray!

First things first, congratulations! Even just getting to this step is a huge achievement. Well done!

So now what?

You've painstakingly crafted a world with characters who feel like cherished friends in your imagination. Rest assured, your vision is in caring and capable hands. I have a passion for bringing stories and characters to life through illustrations that are full of warmth and personality.

Find out what you can expect working with me below!

  • First things first, I can’t help you out if I don’t know who you are!

Shoot me a message at hello@jemmaortiger.com.au, or fill out the contact form and I’ll get back to you ASAP.

  • Next, we will organise a time to really delve deep into you and the story you have crafted.

Depending on the size of the project and your location, this might be in person, or over Zoom- whichever you would prefer.

Now be warned, I will grill you with questions- but it’s for a purpose! My goal is to gain a deep and holistic understanding of what the core purpose of your story is and work out a plan of how we can reach the your best audience and communicate with them effectively.

  • Next I’ll send through an obligation-free quote and a project proposal.

The project proposal will outline all the key details we discussed in the discovery meeting, which will ensure that we’re both on the same page before we get started!

A contract will also be included. Once you sign on the dotted line- then the magic can begin!

For most projects a 50% deposit is required upfront, however this may vary depending on the project specifications.

  • Once the deposit has been received, I’ll get to work!

Before we begin, I will outline a schedule of ‘checkpoints’. These checkpoint dates will be organised opportunities where I will present a few pages at a time of illustration to hear your feedback and input.

  • First up, I will create a character design sheet for each of your key characters. This will show different options for their appearance and characteristics.

  • Next, a full storyboard will be created. This will outline the layout of each page, including characters and text placement.

  • Once you’ve signed off on yhe character designs and storyboard I’ll start on the full illustrations.

At agreed checkpoint dates I will present a few pages at a time for your feedback and evaluation. This may be in person, over Zoom or phone, depending on the size of the project.

  • Every project includes two free rounds of revisions. This is where you have the chance to request changes and edits to the design.

After the two rounds of revisions, changes can still be made however you may be charged a little extra.

  • Once all revisions have been made and you’re happy, I’ll prepare the final designs! This may involve preparing files for print, formatting layouts and whatever else is necessary for your unique project!

(Please note that you will need to source your own printing, publishing and distribution services.)

Before design rights are transferred, full payment must be received.

    Then we can celebrate! Hooray!

  • This is where I need your help!

After the illustration and design process, I’d love to hear your overall thoughts and feedback. Google reviews are invaluable, so I truly appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with others!

So what are you waiting for? Let’s do this!
